Cricket Formats and Major Tournaments

Cricket is played in three different formats — and the betting experience differs for each.

T20 Cricket

In this 20-over format, matches end quickly, so betting markets move fast too. T20 matches in leagues like BPL and IPL are the most widely followed. Odds shift after every wicket and six, making this format especially popular for live betting.

ODI Cricket

In 50-over one-day matches, strategy and patience matter more. ODI format features in the T20 World Cup and ICC events. Live market odds rise and fall based on mid-match run rates and powerplay performance.

Test Cricket

In a five-day Test match, a draw is a possible outcome, so you can bet on three sides — Team A win, Team B win, or draw. Pitch conditions and weather have a significant effect on odds.

o baji BPL and IPL Tournament Betting

Major Cricket Tournaments

The tournament that generates the most excitement among cricket fans in Bangladesh is the BPL — every season the competition on Dhaka's grounds draws enormous attention. Alongside it, Bangladeshi viewers follow every IPL match with great interest. When the Bangladesh Tigers play in the T20 World Cup or the ICC Champions Trophy, those matches see particularly active markets at o baji.

Various markets are also available for international bilateral series. Series-wide markets such as series winner, top wicket-taker, or top batsman give you a chance to think a bit longer term.

Popular Betting Markets

There are many types of markets in cricket — here are the most commonly used ones.

Match Winner

Which team will win the match? T20 and ODI have two options; Test has three (Team A, Team B or draw). The simplest market — a good place to start with any match.

Simplest market

Toss Winner

You can bet on who will win the toss before the match starts. This is completely independent — it has no relation to pitch conditions or team strength. It is a 50-50 market.

Settled before the match

Top Batsman

Which player will score the most runs in an innings or across the whole match? The odds for a specific batsman from Team A are higher because there are more choices.

Higher odds opportunity

Total Runs Over/Under

A market on whether the runs scored will be above or below a set number. Example: if the line for Team A's innings is 160 runs — Over means 161 or more, Under means 159 or fewer.

Useful for pitch analysis

Multi Bet

Combining multiple matches or markets multiplies the odds together. Three selections at 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.84 (approximate) — a ৳100 bet returns ৳484, but all three selections must win.

Multiplied odds

First Wicket Timing

In which over will the first wicket of the innings fall? This is a live market that depends on the form of the opening partnership and the strength of the bowling attack.

How to Understand Odds Formats

The same odds can be written in three different ways — here are the simplest examples.

Example 1 — Bet on Team A to win (৳1,000 stake)

Decimal 2.25 Stake × Odds = Total return
Fractional 5/4 ৳5 profit for every ৳4 wagered
American +125 Plus means profit on a ৳100 bet

If Team A wins, a ৳1,000 bet returns ৳2,250 in total (৳1,250 profit + ৳1,000 stake). If Team A loses, ৳1,000 is lost.

Example 2 — Bet on Team B to win, the favourite (৳1,000 stake)

Decimal 1.80 Lower odds means favourite
Fractional 4/5 ৳4 profit for every ৳5 wagered
American -125 Minus means the stake needed to make ৳100 profit

If Team B wins, a ৳1,000 bet returns ৳1,800 in total (৳800 profit). In American format, a minus sign means that team is the favourite.

The most widely used format in cricket betting is decimal. It is straightforward — multiply the stake by the odds to get the total return. Fractional format is the older method, mainly used in the UK. In American format, plus (+) and minus (−) indicate whether a team is the underdog or the favourite.

All three formats convey the same information — only the way they are written differs. At o baji you can choose your preferred format.

In handicap or over/under markets, the outcome is expressed as a number and returns are calculated the same way. Example: if Team A's run line is 165.5 — 'Over' wins if Team A scores 166 or more, 'Under' wins if they score 165 or fewer. You can find answers to more betting questions on the FAQ page.

In a multi bet, the odds of each selection are multiplied together. Three selections at 1.50, 1.70 and 1.90 give combined odds of 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.84 (approximate). A ৳100 bet returns ৳484 — but if any one of the three selections loses, the entire bet is lost.

Live Betting Active

Odds Change with Every Wicket and Over

Live in-play betting lets you place bets in real time while the match is in progress. In cricket, the situation changes after every ball — when a wicket falls, the bowling team's chances of winning increase, so their odds shorten and the batting team's odds lengthen.

When a lot of runs come off an over, the batting team's odds start to shorten. After the powerplay overs, the nature of the pitch becomes clearer, and many bettors use the mid-innings run rate as a basis for live markets.

In Test matches, rain or fading light can shift odds quickly. In T20, the last five overs see very rapid changes, so live markets are most active during that period.

At o baji, live scores and in-play markets are available on the o baji Bet platform, so you can follow the flow of the match while placing bets.

Football and Other Sports

Alongside cricket, o baji offers betting on several other sports — though the market structure and outcomes differ.

Football Betting

Football typically has three possible outcomes: Team A win, Team B win, or draw. It moves more slowly than T20 cricket — the situation in a 90-minute match shifts gradually. Popular markets include:

  • Match Result (1X2)
  • Both teams to score or not
  • Total goals over/under
  • First goalscorer

Cricket vs Football — Key Differences

A cricket match has far more markets because you can bet separately on each over, wicket and batsman. Football has fewer markets by comparison, but live betting across 90 minutes can be intense. Both sports offer multi bet, handicap and over/under markets.

Beyond cricket, betting is available on sports like badminton, table tennis and kabaddi. These sports are less widely covered, so market depth is lower, but odds can sometimes be interesting.

Beyond betting, o baji also has live casino and slot games at o baji Casino — for those who want a different kind of entertainment during a break from the match.

Some Useful Betting Tips

01

Set a small budget

Decide in advance how much you are willing to spend on this entertainment. Stop when you reach that limit — avoid chasing losses to try to win back what you have spent.

02

Start with one format

T20 matches are quick to follow and the markets are straightforward. Start with match winner or toss markets in this format.

03

Be careful with multi bets

Multi bets increase the odds, but if any one selection is wrong the whole bet is lost. It is safer to combine no more than two selections when starting out.

04

Do not rush in live markets

Many people place bets quickly when a wicket falls. Live betting is immediate, so take a moment to assess the situation before deciding.

05

Treat it as entertainment

Betting is not a reliable way to earn money. Enjoy the game — whatever the outcome.

Cricket Betting FAQ

T20 is generally the easiest format to start with — matches are short, there are fewer markets, and results come quickly. Test matches are a bit more complex because a draw is an additional possible outcome. ODI sits in between.

Before the match starts, odds are more stable and you have more time to analyse. In live betting, odds change after every ball — decisions need to be made quickly. Live markets offer more opportunities but also more risk, since the situation can shift fast.

In a handicap market, a virtual advantage is given to the weaker team. Example: if Team B is given a +1.5 wicket handicap, then even if Team B loses by just 1 wicket, Team B still wins in the handicap market. No stake or return example is given for this type of market — you just need to understand the conditions for the outcome.

Both are T20 format, so the types of markets are the same. IPL has more teams and more matches, so its markets are wider. BPL features local teams, making it easier for Bangladeshi fans to follow. Both leagues offer markets like top batsman, total sixes, and over-by-over markets.

The rules depend on the platform's terms. Generally, if the required number of overs is not completed, the bet is considered void and the stake is refunded. Read the terms and conditions for full details.
